Meet Andrew Kemp, Ph.D.

Andrew Kemp, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Earth and Ocean Sciences, Tufts University. Dr. Kemp appeared on SftPublic's Contemporary Science Issues and Innovations to explain the cause of Our Rising Seas today. He described how sea-rise cycles over the past 2000 years were due to natural causes, while today's rise is essentially due to humanity's excessive production of CO2.

Dr.Kemp's research focus is on reconstructions of sea-level change over eons. The 2000 year stretch is particularly well marked in the geological record, as is the dramatic rise in atmospheric CO2 from the Industrial Revolution to the present. His work is interdisciplinary, so that multiple sources are analyzed, including salt marsh fossil records, marine and land sediments, and other indicators. This approach is a necessary trend in climate-related research.
