Meet Justin Hollander, PhD, AICP

Justin Hollander,Ph.D.,AICP, Professor, Urban & Environmental Policy & Planning, Tufts University.

Professor Hollander appeared on SftPublic's Contemporary Science Issues & Innovations program on December 05, 2023 (Forum Network webinar). His subject this time was The Urban Future: On Earth... And Elsewhere . The discussion covered the design and planning concerns for an increasingly urban global population on this vulnerable planet. Dr. Hollander also discussed his newest book, The First City on Mars: An Urban Planner’s Guide to Settling the Red Planet, which is concerned with the hypothetical colonization of Mars.

Professor Hollander gave a SftPublic presentation in May, 2011, Restoration of Severely Contaminated Lands on the issue of "brownfields". He explained how urban planners, citizens, and scientists are recovering areas and buildings previously made uninhabitable by man-made contamination.

BIO (12/05/23): Justin Hollander, PhD, FAICP is a Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning. He has worked in land use and environmental planning at the local, regional, and federal levels, most recently for the Public Buildings Service of the U.S. General Services Administration as a Presidential Management Fellow. His research examines how cities and regions manage physical change during periods of growth and decline and the cognitive, health, and social dimensions of community well-being. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners

Justin Hollander is a frequent speaker, having appeared on both TV and radio - C-SPAN's Washington Journal and the Diane Ream Show on NPR. He is also regularly called upon as an expert for a variety of media sources on urban planning and design issues, including WGBH, NPR, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, TIME Magazine, USA Today, Crain's New York Business, and the Las Vegas Sun.He also hosts the Apple podcast "Cognitive UrbanismT".
